India A and Vietnam are the Champions.

India A men’s team annexed the gold in the Tata Steel Asian Chess Championship which concluded at the Town Hall on Monday. The premier Asian team event was organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management. In the final round India A overwhelmed Sri Lanka 4-0 to take their match score to 14 points well ahead of Vietnam and Iran who finished on 11 match points.India A were the only team to win all their matches. Vietnam took the silver on the basis of better tie-breaking points while Iran had to be content with the bronze.

In the women’s section, overnight leaders, Vietnam crushed tail-enders Nepal 4-0 to total 11 points and get the gold. The India A women, who had got a bye in the final round ended on 10 points to take the silver in this section. India B women,went down to Iran 3-1 to spoil their chances of getting the silver. They ended on 9 match points along  with Iran and were placed 4th on tie break losing the bronze to Iran in this section.

The India A men’s team were assured of the gold medal after the completion of the 6th and penultimate round of the Tata SteelAsian Team Chess Championship at Town Hall on Sunday. The premier Asian meet is being organized by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management and will conclude on Monday.

The India A beat Singapore 3.5 –0.5 and took their match score to 12 points to take the gold. On the top board, GM P Harikrishna the lone Singapore GM convincingly while GM Parimarjan Negi too, had little difficulty against low-rated Lo Kin Mun Dominic.

GM Deepan Chakkravarthy  was held to a draw by Tan Weiliang who has an Elo of only 2168. The captain, Sasikiran, surprisingly faced stiff resistance from FM Chua Zheng Yuan Terry but finally prevailed after a prolonged struggled.

Vietnam outplayed Indonesia 4-0 to take their match score to 9 points, while Iran crused Sri Lanka 4-0 to take their match score to 9 points as well. A point behind them is India B on 8 points. They beat tail-enders Yemen  3-1, but surprisingly conceded two draws.

In the women’s section, Vietnam is well placed to pick up the gold as they have 11 match  points and need only a draw against minnows Nepal in the last to confirm their gold medal.

India A women’s team took their tally to 9 match points by beating Bangladesh 4-0 but got the dreaded bye in the last round and will get only 1 point. India B outwitted Sri Lanka and also took their tally to 9 match points. They meet Iran in the final round and a win should get them the silver ahead of India A.

The India A men’s team inched closer to the Asian Team Chess Championship title at Town Hall on Saturday. Two more rounds remain in this premier team event organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management.

India A , who beat Iran convincingly 3.5-0.5 , now are in a commanding position with 10 match points. Their nearest rival Iran and Vietnam are 3 points behind on 7 points apiece.

With the exception of captain K Sasikiran, who was held to a draw by GM Elshan Moradiabadi , the rest Harikrishna , S S Ganguly and Parimarjan Negi won their games comfortably.

The Bangladesh Men’s team were overwhelmed by the all –GM Vietnam team who took their tally to 7 match points.

India B trounced minnows Nepal 4-0 to take their match score to 6 points just behind Vietnam and Iran .

In the women’s section, overnight leaders Vietnam continued to lead the field with a 3.5-0.5 win over Singapore to take their match score to 9 points. Behind them are the India A and the India B teams on 7 points each.

The strong India A team consisting of Eesha Karvade, Tania Sachdev Soumya Swaminathan and Kruttika Nadig faced little resistance from the inexperienced Lankan team and won 4-0.

The India B team beat Indonesia 3.5-0.5, wi th the only draw coming from WGM Mary Ann Gomes who played against Sukander Irine Karishma on the top board.

The India B team surprised India A in the women’s section in the 4th round of the Tata Steel Team Chess Championship at town Hall in Kolkata on Friday. The premier Asian team event is being organized by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management. In the men’s section, India A continued to win and beat Vietnam 2.5-1.5 to lead the fray with 8 match points to their credit. They are closely followed by Iran on 7 points. Iran led by GM Eshan Ghaem Maghami beat Indonesia 3-1 to set up a 5th round clash with India A.

On the top board, GM P Harikrishna was surprised by GM Le Quang Liem, who had won the Kolkata open earlier this year.The Indian captain GM K Sasikiran against Nguyen Ngoe Troung Son, while Surya Sekhar Ganguly won a quick game against GM Dao Thien Hai with the black pieces in a Grunfeld defence.GM Parimarjan Negi drew his game against GM Nguyen Anh Dung

In the women’s section, Vietnam beat the Iran 2.5 -1.5 narrowly to lead this section with 7 points. India B spoilt India A’s chanhat ces by beating their 1st team 2.5 –1.5 in the most exciting match of the day.17-year-old class 12 student Bhakti Kulkarni played the game of her life to beat WGM Kruttika Nadig and help her team come back in the championship. “ We came back from the grave, when everybody had given us up” said captain Nisha Mohota after the game.” I had great faith in Bhakti and told her that she had to win her game today” she added. On the top board Mary Ann Gomes drew with D Harika, Nisha drew with Eesha Karwade while Padmini Rout held Tania Sachdev.

 


India A men team emerges as sole leader

India A merged as the sole leader with 6 points in the men’s section after the 3rd round of the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship at Town Hall in Kolkata on Thursday. The seven round Swiss league event is being organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management.
India A once against justified their top billing by inflicting a crushing blow to the overnight joint leaders Indonesia, who lost on 3 boards. Low rated Anjas Novita held GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, which was the only consolation for the Indonesian team. Vietnam and Iran trail India A a point behind on 5 points each.
The all GM Vietnam team made short work of the India B team who lost their 2nd consecutive match to stay on 2 points. The Iranian men’s team too won comfortably against Singapore to stay near the top.
In the women’s section India A and Vietnam shared the honours to retain their position at the top. Both have 5 points and are followed by Iran on 4 points.

 


 

India A and Indonesia shared the lead

The India A won comfortably against the India B team in the 2nd round of the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship at Town Hall in Kolkata on Wednesday. The premier Asian team event is being organized by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management. After the completion of the round India A and Indonesia share the top spot with 4 points each in the men’s section.

On the top board, National Champion IM B Adhiban held GM P Harikrishna to a creditable draw in a Slav defence. Harikrishna made a theoretical piece sacrifice in a well-prepared Slav defence but Adhiban forced a draw by repeation of moves. The other India A players GM K Sasikiran and GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly won without any difficulty against IM S Satyapragyan and R R Laxman. GM Parimarjan Negi won a long game against IM Deep Sengupta with the black pieces. On the 2nd board,

Vietnam and Iran split points in a fiercely-fought match. Both are tied in the 2nd place with 3 points each.In the women’s section, India A  and Vietnam share the top spot with 4 points each. The India A women team won a closely contested match against Iran with Harika and Tania Sachdev winning their games. Vietnam beat India B rather easily with Mary Ann being the lone victor, while the rest, Nisha Mohota, Padmini Rout and Bhakti Kulkarni losing their games.

The Iranian Men’s and Women’s team got off to a flying start by winning all their games on the opening day of Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship at the Town Hall in Kolkata on Tuesday. The seven round Swiss league championship is organized by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and All Sport Management and will continue till December 28.

According to the new rules of Fide a team gets 2 points for winning and 1 point for drawing. Top seeds, India A teams won by the narrowest margin of 2.5-1.5 against their less fancied opponents Bangladesh and Indonesia in both the Men’s and women’s section.

Parimarjan Negi of India A was the only player from India A to win his game while the rest drew their games including the highest rated player of the meet GM P Harikrishna who was held to a draw by GM Ziaur Rahman. In the women’s section, Esha Karwade of India A was upset by low rated Baiq Vina Lestari of Indonesia.

The India B team started their campain in style by winning all their games. After the 1st round India A , India B, Iran, Vietnam and Indonesia lead the field jointly with 2 points each in the men’s section. In the women’s section, India A, Vietnam and Iran share the op spot with 2 points each.


Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship inaugurated by Sri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable Union Finance Minister of India.

Union Finance Minister Sri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Tata Steel Asian Chess Championship by making a symbolic move on a chess board at the Hotel Hindustan International on Sunday. The finance minister also unveiled the champion’s trophies of this premier Asian team championship which is organised by Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy & All Sport Management and will be held at the historic Town Hall. Speaking on the occasion, Sri Pranab Mukherjee said, “ Chess is a game of intellect, patience and farsightedness. It is not important who wins the trophy, it is the participants spirit that prevails.” He wished all the participating counties a memorable stay in Kolkata “ I am sure the participants will take back happy memories of the city, and a part of India…” he  further added.

Aslo present on the occasion, were the Mayor of Kolkata, Sri Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, the leader of the CLP Sri Manas Bhuinya, Sri Sanjay Choudhury, Chief, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel, Sri D.V. The championship scheduled to start on December 21, has been postponed by a day due to the late arrival of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka teams. The Bangladesh captain, Niaz Murshed, however, arrived in the city earlier in the evening  and attended the captains meeting. In the captains meeting held late in the evening it was agreed by all the teams that the tournament would  start from Tuesday, December 22.

It was also decided in the captains meeting that no player can agree to a draw before 30 moves. The games will start from 2 p.m everyday.The time limit for each game will be 40 moves in the first one and half hours followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game. In addition there would be 30 seconds increment for each move.

India A teams start as the favourite in both the men’s and women’s sections in this 7 round Swiss league championship which will continue till December 28. As the host country, India will be fielding 2 teams in each category.
